Maryland Ranked Number Three on U.S. Green Building Council's Top 10 States for LEED List

Last week the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released its annual list of the Top 10 States for LEED, and Maryland ranked in the top five for the second year in a row. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Design) is one of the most widely recognized and used green building certification systems for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. LEED-certified buildings save money for businesses and taxpayers, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a healthier environment for workers and the larger community.

The USGBC’s Top 10 States for LEED ranks each state by the square feet of LEED space per state resident. This year, Maryland came in at number three, with 15,583,423 square-feet of LEED certified projects in 2014, increasing the state’s per capita total from 2.20 to 2.70 square-feet of LEED space per resident.

Merritt is proud to be part of this move toward a healthier built environment. Today, we have seven LEED certified buildings including, Schilling Green, Schilling Green II, Calverton Corporate Center, Meadowridge 95-Building II, Meadowridge 95-Building III, International Circle and 8840 Stanford Boulevard. Two of our tenant spaces are also LEED certified for Commercial Interiors.
